Want clean water? Head to Frankfort right now and get on some backs

The EPA is holding the first of their two hearings tonight in Frankfort on its blockage of 36 surface mining permits in eastern Kentucky, due to concern over the health and environmental risks of pollutants discharged into nearby streams.

King Coal will be busing in folks from all over the state to speak out against the EPA putting up roadblocks to orange water, and holding a big rally beforehand in which the likes of Jim Gooch and possibly Steve “Get Off Our Backs” Beshear.

If you want to counter those voices, head to the Frankfort Convention Center (405 Mero St.) for the hearing, which begins at 7 pm. You can pre-register to speak here, or sign up to speak in person beginning an hour before the hearing. There will also be a rally at the Capitol Plaza Hotel next door beginning at 6 pm in the Kentucky Room, with folks from KFTC and Appalachian Voices speaking, as well as Sen. Kathy Stein.
