In addition to endorsing the renovation of Rupp, home of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, the planning committee supported plans for replacing Lexington Center with a campus-like convention center of five buildings linked by a covered walkway, with a small park in the center.
The new civic center would be on the west side of Rupp in what is now the Cox Street parking lot. Town Branch, which now runs underground through the area, would be brought to the surface to flow through a green space surrounding the civic center. The Jefferson Street viaduct would be removed.
Within the arts and entertainment district would be underground parking, an amphitheater, retail stores on Main Street and High Street and arts and education facilities.
You’ll note that the second picture features structures occupying the Maxwell surface lot and along Main Street, new retail structures and a closed off/opened up Triangle Park.
Enjoy the Second Half of the game.

You are mistaken. The Hyatt is indeed included in the aerial rendering. It is visible behind the roof gleam. If you look at the HL photo of the same current aerial you will see space group did not move or diminish the hotel.
As for why theres nothing on the CentrePointe block, THERE IS NOTHING ON THE CENTREPOINTE BLOCK. Currently there isn’t even a design for Space Group to model off of. What do you expect?
In the street level view, I would guess that the Hyatt is to the right behind that tree.
And don’t pretend the idea of two entrances is nefarious. There already are. The point is to give them identity. If the catwalk happens, I’ve no doubt a certain sect of the fanbase might rather avoid. Additionally the point is to better include main and short so a vine entrance with strong presence adds to that.
Cmon, carto. You know this stuff.

So you agree you are mistaken about the Hyatt?
At the last public meeting, there were indeed some sketches of downtown that included a studio gang-like centrepointe. but those were very loose sketches and i would imagine the very idea of including the tubes went away when the webb’s dumped their genius. if there was a new plan, perhaps they would’ve included it. and anyway, since you failed to notice that the hyatt was there, what difference should the actual rendering of absence of space really make to you?
i’m not chastising you for your support of the webbs. i’m chastising you for constantly buying into their stories of imminent construction. you have repeatedly predicted and trumpeted coming construction and you are always wrong on that. if they ever get money to build it and you’re still cheerleading, then at that point you will be right. congrats.
the webbs may find someone who will fund it. i’ve never said that’s impossible… i think it’s a stretch and you think it’s happened about five or six times already.
the rupp area plan — as Fortune clearly reported — may take up to twenty years. it wouldn’t surprise me if it took longer. there is definitely a financial hurdle for any of what bates is master planning… no one is pretending that’s not the case. there are significant differences in financing and return for the two projects and perhaps some day if i get time i’ll get around to that. one of the primary differences is that centrepointe as the webbs have envisioned it places hotel rooms at twice the price of existing rooms into a hotel market that’s only at 60% occupancy and predicting an occupancy rate for their 2x-as-expensive rooms of 70 or 75%. That does not add up. The Rupp area finance committee is now going to work on their report… if it’s as insanely stupid as the CentrePointe one, i’d imagine pretty much everyone will recognize it, just as they have with the hotel.
anyway… i’ll try to work on some of these issues and we can comment back and forth at a later date. happy holidays.
