Public Policy Polling put out numbers this afternoon on the biggest gubernatorial race in 4 years… and Beshear is cruising.
More than anything else this is because Williams is one of the worst candidates a party’s put forth in a plausibly competitive Gubernatorial race in recent memory. Only 21% of voters have a favorable opinion of him to 54% who view him negatively. Even with Republicans he’s barely seen positively by a 41/29 margin and with Democrats (9/70) and independents (16/55) there are virtually no voters with a favorable view.
All his “GET OFF MY BACKS” and dinosaur-partying has garnered Steve Beshear a 57% approval rating. This leaves the rest of the GOP ticket hurting (and probably cursing Williams).
In the Auditor race Democrat Adam Edelen leads Republican John Kemper III 34-31. In the Secretary of State race Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes leads Republican Bill Johnson 38-35. And in the Agriculture Commissioner race Republican James Comer leads Democrat Bob Farmer 37-36.
Speaking of John Kemper… the other evening I was quite legally and visibly crossing a street (next to a very well lit gas station) and, because I’m a cautious pedestrian, I noticed that the SUV coming in my direction with its turn signal on didn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing and indeed, it just kept coming and turning and so, already nearly to the middle of the street, I anticipated this inattentiveness to Right-of-Way and took several steps back. At this point the driver finally noticed my presence and appeared to have something very close to a panic attack, realizing how close he had come to running me down. He was an older gentleman with silver hair and as he continued right past me and sped up the street I noted that the entire back window of his SUV was filled with a “KEMPER FOR AUDITOR” sticker. Anyway. I’m glad I didn’t get run down by a supporter of the losing candidate. Edelen’s people can run me over anytime they like… if I’ve got to die or at least break my leg at the wrong end of a vehicle, I’d like it to be at the hands of a winner.
So folks — candidates, campaign staff, supporters, totally apolitical drivers — wherever you are, watch out for bicyclists and pedestrians. They are smaller than you and, generally, you must yield to them. And for the love of G-d, look before you turn just as I shall continue to look before crossing the street.
Getting back to the poll, Conway’s doing pretty darn well against P’Pool, up 47-36.
Joe’s got much, much more over at LEO, and much less random asides.

SHE WON'T GO!
