Another blow to the campaign of unelected appointed Lexington councilman Doug Martin, as his opponent Kevin Williams has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police:

Lexington, KY – Kevin Williams, a candidate for Lexington’s Urban County Council in the 10th District, has received two endorsements from local lodges of the Fraternal Order of Police – Bluegrass Lodge #4 and Town Branch Chapter #83 of Probation and Corrections Officers.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the local Fraternal Order of Police lodges,” said Williams. “It is a reflection of my commitment to help those charged with protecting public safety in Lexington.”

Bluegrass Lodge #4 President Mike Sweeney said that Williams would be a strong advocate for law enforcement on the Lexington Council. “Kevin has a long record of advocating for public safety in Lexington. Lexington’s public safety employees have a strong ally and friend in Kevin.”

Kevin Williams has also been endorsed by the Lexington Firefighters Local 526.

“Making Lexington great starts with creating a safe city,” said Williams. “As a councilman, I will make sure our police, corrections, fire and all public safety services have the resources and funding they need to keep Lexington safe.”

One might think that losing the firefighters is bad for Doug Martin, but you’d be wrong. You see, his ongoing tactic of calling firefighters a bunch of spoiled whiners is actually really smart politics, because who among us really respects the work that firefighters do, right? Can I get an amen?
